WOW, can you believe we are in our 9th month of school already!  The school year is flying by and we want to finish up strong. I wanted to share some dates for educational nights and some tips for getting our children to achieve more. We will be having Math/Game nights on April 26th, 27th, and 28th. K &1 will be on April 26th, 2nd & 3rd will be on April 27th, and 4th & 5th will be on April 28th.  Each child that attends and completes the scavenger hunt will receive a homework pass. It will be fun, informative and each child will receive a math manipulative that can be used to help them achieve more.  I hope to see you there.

Tips from Cann’s Corner

*Talk to your child’s teacher to see how they are doing or how they can improve.

*Read together for fun (you read a page, then they read a page) this way you can correct them and they can hear quality
reading with inflection (excited, sad, happy, or angry).

*Set a regular routine for homework. Have a snack before or after homework, but make sure the  schedule is similar daily (will eliminate negotiating or procrastinating).

*Get involved in school events (the more your children see that you are interested and appreciate education, the more they will be interested in being educated).

*Remember to reward your child’s efforts, not just results.
Remember your average household says 3000 negative comments per year to their children VS the 1000 positive comments per year to their children.  When they hear too much negative, they won’t care to hear a positive.

I hope you all have a great and healthy month and hope to see you at our Math/Game nights!!

Sincerely,

Mr. Cann
