Dear Families,
Skyline Elementary is an
awesome place to be right now. Our
students and teachers are excited to begin a
new year. We hope you enjoyed many of the
family activities during the Month of
December.
The students are working
extremely hard in their studies for the
upcoming FCAT exams. During the month of
February, our fourth grade students will be
taking FCAT Writes. The exam will measure
their writing ability in either expository
or narrative writing. Our goal is that 90%
of our students will meet or exceed a 3.5 on
this exam. If you are a parent of a fourth
grader, please make sure your child is here
on time, has a good breakfast, and gets a
good night sleep. Your encouragement will
go a long way as well.
Please stop by to take a look
at our new Cafeteria floor. It was
Skyline’s gift from Santa this year. The
workers were busy tearing out the old and
putting in the new while the students
enjoyed their winter break. We are excited
to have a floor that shines like our
students do each day.
Keep in mind you can help our
school by making sure your Target Credit
Card is registered to donate back to
Skyline. Just go to
Target.com
to designate Skyline as your
school of choice. Anytime you use your
card, a portion of the profit is given to
Skyline Elementary. We feel so fortunate
this year that the community has come
together to help students in our school who
are having financial issues. Please take a
look at our list of businesses to thank.
Without the communities help, we would not
have been able to provide food and gifts to
our families in need.
As always, thank-you for
sharing your child with us. Your child
makes our school special.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chuck Vilardi
Principal

A New
Beginning
The New Year can be a time
for starting over. If your child has had
difficulty in school, the start of the New
Year may offer a chance to begin again. As
a parent, if you haven’t had an opportunity
to be a part of your child’s school life,
the New Year offers you the chance to do so.
Help your child think
about one area in which he/she could do
better in school. Then set a goal together
such as bringing a math grade up, doing
homework on time, or reading after school
every day.
Help your child take steps
to reach this goal and keep a chart or graph
of how well he/she does. You’ll be
improving how well your child does in school
and helping them feel better about
themselves at the same time. |
We would like to thank the following
businesses for supporting our school:

Skyline Elementary
Adopts Marine Platoon
Skyline Elementary has adopted a Marine Platoon that
is serving in Iraq. There are 25 men in the
platoon, one of them being a former Skyline student
and the son of a faculty member. As a school, we
are showing them our support by sending Care
Packages and cards and letters. These Marines are
far away from friends and family and any kind of
support we can give them is greatly appreciated.
Items for the Care Packages can be dropped off in
the front office. Thank you for showing that
Skyline
cares!

Parents/Guardians/Concerned Citizens –
Please help us with our awareness program regarding
school zones. We have joined forces with our local
government agencies, law enforcement, and school
community groups to help get the message across that our
students are far too valuable to be speeding and
carelessly driving in and around school zones. Know that
all our groups will be focused on making to and from
school even safer than it already is. “Eyes” will be
watching out for our young people.
 |
Please observe the stop sign as you exit our
Parent Pick Up area. Stopping here could save a
life. Our concern is for the safety of all of
our students.
Thank you |
Keeping
children safe in designated school zones is a top
priority. |
Florida KidCare
KidCare Is For Any Child Without
Health Insurance.
Nine out of ten families in Florida have health
insurance for their children. You can join them with Florida
KidCare if your child is uninsured.
Florida KidCare provides quality healthcare
benefits to children under the age of 19. Children enrolled in
the program have access to preventive care such as regular
doctor’s visits, immunizations, dental and vision benefits.
Most families pay $20 or less per month. Many pay nothing at
all.
You can apply for Florida KidCare by simply
completing an online application at
www.floridakidcare.org.
You can also call 1-888-540-5437 to receive an application by
mail or help over the phone.
“KidCare is for any child that’s uninsured and
our goal is to enroll as many children in the program as
possible,” said Rich Robleto, executive director of the Florida
Healthy Kids Corporation. “Families are applying everyday
because they know there’s nothing like having the peace of mind
that you can take your child in for a doctor’s visit without
breaking the bank.”
Since it began in 1998, Florida KidCare has
offered working families access to high-quality doctors and
preventive care for their children at little to no cost. Florida
KidCare currently serves more than 1.4 million children, of
which 1.2 million are Children’s Medicaid customers and more
than 250,000 are enrolled in MediKids, Children’s Medical
Services Network or Healthy Kids.
